My sister’s husband and his family are from England, and they really love visiting us in New Orleans. They were in town for Christmas recently, and I wound up talking to his father about retiring here. He and his wife love the town so much they’re strongly considering coming over. It may sound odd, but talking to him about the financial ramifications of such a move was fascinating to me. Like so many other things, retirement planning is a field where there are subtle but distinct differences between US and UK practice. I am very sorry that I did not know more about the field, and I could not help him out with locating a proper QROPS Pension arrangement here. I have to admit, I do not even know if we have them in the United States! It is not as complicated as it sounds; a QROPS is just a foreign pension that has been certified by the UK tax authorities.
